Woman killed by passing car after jumping out of moving Uber on Long Island Expressway

A 32-year-old woman was killed early Saturday after she jumped out of a moving Uber on the Long Island Expressway in Queens and was struck by a passing vehicle that kept going, police said.
The Uber driver’s gray Volkswagen was heading east along the expressway toward the Kissena Blvd. overpass in Kew Gardens about 1:40 a.m. when the woman, Priyanka Sewhani, who was sitting in the back seat, opened the door and jumped out of the moving ride-share vehicle.
She landed on the asphalt, then was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene, cops said.
Sewhani died at the scene.
The 45-year-old Uber driver immediately stopped the Volkswagen and remained at the scene. No criminal charges were immediately filed.
Cops blocked off at least one eastbound lane of the LIE as they conducted their investigation.
An email to Uber for comment was not immediately returned.
